In most email servers it is possible to use address extensions in the local part of the email address to have multiple aliases for the same user.

For example herbert.poul+important@gmail.com - See Gmail Help for details how to use it in Gmail

Unfortunately not all services you have to enter your email address support which is really annoying. So please, if you write your application at least allow the + sign in the local part of the email address (if you don't check against the RFC 822 in the first place.)
